Someone shared a stock basket with you

What to do with it · about 2 minutes

A basket is a list of stocks with a target percentage for each. The file you were sent holds those percentages — not a number of shares — so it works no matter how much money you're putting in. You could invest ₹50,000 or ₹5,00,000 from the same file.

What to do

1
Open the workbench

Click the button below. It's a single web page — nothing to install, no sign-up, and it never sees your broker account.

Open the Basket Workbench →
2
Load the basket

Drag the .json file onto the page, or paste the text if it was sent to you in a message. You'll immediately see how many stocks it holds, how concentrated it is, and the minimum amount it needs.

3
Type what you want to invest

You get an exact shopping list — how many shares of each stock. If your amount is below the basket's minimum, the page will say so and suggest workable amounts, because a smaller amount would silently drop the expensive stocks and leave you with something different.

4
Place the orders

Either Copy as text and enter them in your broker by hand, or — if you have set up one-click ordering — press Place in Kite, which opens Kite with everything pre-filled for you to review and confirm. Nothing is ever placed without you approving it.

Drop your holdings file in the workbench's Step 4

Download your holdings from your broker (Zerodha: Console → Holdings → download) and drop it on the page. It compares what you own against the basket's targets and tells you exactly what to buy or sell to line them up again.

Questions people ask

Does this see my broker account or my money?

No. It has no login, no password and no access to your account. Your files are read inside your browser tab. The only thing sent anywhere is the list of stock symbols, to this app's own price lookup — never quantities, amounts or files. You place the orders yourself.

Why does it need me to type prices sometimes?

Usually you don't. The basket carries prices, and Refresh prices from the market fetches today's from this app's own price lookup, sending only the stock symbols. If a stock has no price, or that lookup can't be reached, type it from your broker app — prices are only used to convert percentages into share counts.

Why can't I invest a smaller amount?

Indian exchanges only allow whole shares. If one stock in the basket costs ₹10,000 and is meant to be 7% of your money, you need roughly ₹1,50,000 before a single share of it fits. Below that you'd own a different, more lopsided basket.

Will my share counts match the sender's?

Almost certainly not, and that's correct. You match their percentages, not their share counts. Share counts depend on how much each of you invested and what prices you paid.

This is not advice. Whoever shared this basket is not your financial adviser, and neither is this page. Check every order before you confirm it, and only invest what you've decided to invest yourself.
